Module 1 Week 1
 

Oliver Ramsbotham, professor of Conflict Resolution from University of Bradford, taught the history of conflict resolution and guided the fellows on potential methods of solving all levels of conflicts

Irene Santiago, Chief Executive Officer, Mindanao Commission on Women, observed the group discussion and taught the sessions on gender.

Tom Woodhouse, professor of Conflict Resolution from University of Bradford, taught the theory and art of conflict resolution.

During this module, fellows had several group discussions on fundamental concepts and values of peace and conflict studies. They also practiced their skills in a simulated situation which divided them into two different nations that required them to resolve their conflict while maintaining their national interests.

Rotary Center Orientation January 17, 2009
 

PRID Noraseth Pathamanand (Right) and PDG. Dr. Saowalak Rattanavich gave welcome remarks to fellows and introductions to the history of Rotary in Thailand.

During the orientation, fellows introduced themselves in the ‘WHO ARE WE’ session together with their host counselors. They enjoyed sharing their experiences and learning about each other.

They gathered together to take a group photo for all fellows, host counselors, and Rotarians after they finished their orientation.

Later this day, the Rotary Center provided a welcome party for fellows on a River Cruise.

Individual Conflict Presentation, January 16, 2009
 

Piyal Abeysekera from Sri Lanka presented “Prisoner Cry” about a conflict between prisoners and prison guards in Sri Lanka.

Mohammad Shafqat presented the conflict in Kashmir.

From Left: Ankur Bharali from India, Rolando Ganac from Philippines and Dilshad Jaff from Iraq. They presented the various ethnic and political conflicts in their countries.

From Left: Sanakorn Manmuang from Thailand, Aref Norrzai from Afghanistan and Sorawit Sangsuwan from Thailand. They presented conflicts on national interest and identity.

RCPCS Orientation, January 15, 2009
 

RCPCS Orientation for session VI fellows at Rotary Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Chulalongkorn University. We started with a warm welcome for the peace fellows. Professor Dr. Amara Pongsapich (Left), Director and Jenn Weidman (Right), Deputy Director gave welcome remark to all the fellows.

 

During fellows introdution, there were activities for fellows to introduce themselves and tell a story based on pictures they were given.

Later on this day, they went on a campus tour with Center staff and ROTARACTors on a CU shuttle bus.

They were given information about how to use the Center for Academic Resources, which is the main library at Chulalongkorn University.

Full and part funding for the participants
