Module 3: Conflict Resolution Skills, Approaches and Stratgies

August, 2006 - The third module of the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program emphasizes the practical skills of conflict resolution including problem solving, communication in conflict situations, negotiation, mediation, peacekeeping, conflict resolution and civil society, peace process, building zones of peace and nonviolent action.

The module is facilitated by Dr.Suwit Laohasiriwong (Institute for Dispute Resolution, Khon Kaen University), Dr.Kamuarulzaman Askandar (University of Malaya) and Prof.Dr.Puntip Sirivunnabood (Faculty of Psychology, Chulalongkorn University). The speakers invited for this module include Dr.Christopher Mitchell (Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University), Dr.Punrapee Suthiwan (Faculty of Psychology, Chulalongkorn University), Dr.Vanchai Vatanasapt (King Pradjadhipok's Institue), Joe William (Canadian International Development Agency, Sri Lanka), and Dr.Chaiwat Satha-Anand (Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University).

RPCS Participants Conducts Self-Defense Training for DSI





August 17, 2006
- PRCS participants Cpt.Danilo Estranero from the Philippines conducted a half-day day training on unarmed self-defense for 30 personnels of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), Ministry of Justice. Cpt.Estranero mentioned he felt not only contributed something to the security personnel of Thailand but also he established lasting friendship and understanding with them.


Rajib Handique's article published in Pattaya Mail

August, 2006 - Participant Dr.Rajib Handique (India) recently has his article published in Pattaya Mail (Vol.14 No.33, Aug. 18-24, 2006).

The article introduces the three-month certificate course on peace and conflict studies at Chulalongkorn University and voices the author's as well as other participants' views on the program.

Meet Rotary Club of Taksin Dhonburi






August 16, 2006
- Five participants of the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program including Omini Acharya (Nepal), Richelieu Allison (Liberia), Hosannah A.S. James (India), Zelie Pollon (USA/France) and Terdsak Putson (Thailand) participated at the dinner meeting of Taksin Dhonburi Rotary Club at Holiday Inn Crown Plaza Hotel, Bangkok.

Participant interview to Chulalongkorn Radio

August 4, 2006 - Participant Petchara Pliensiri from Thailand gave an interview to Chulalongkorn Radio Station regarding her experience in the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program. She discussed her impression of the on-going field study trip in Northeastern Thailand to monitor resource-based conflict over dam construction issues. Ms.Pliensiri also mentioned the lessons learned from training program was very helpful to her works at the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection, Ministry of Justice.

Module 2: The Diagnosis and Analysis of Conflict




Module 2 - The second module of the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program introduces participants to conflict mapping, conflict impact assessment, conflict triangle, power and conflict and conflict cycle.

The module is facilitated by Dr.Chantana Banpasirichote from Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University and Dr.Yukiko Nishikawa, Deputy Director of the Rotary Center for Peace and Conflict Studies. Prof.Erik Melander from Ussala University, Sweden is invited as a resource person for this module.
