The first field study trip of the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program (July 29-August 4, 2006) visit the northeastern region to introduce the issue of dam construction as case studies for resource-based conflicts.

The trip visit Lam Takong Dam (Nakorn Ratchasima), Phnom Run Temple and Maha Cheewalai Center of Organic Agriculture (Buri Ram), Sirindhorn Dam and Pak Moon Dam (Ubon Ratchathani), Rasi Salai Dam and Hua Na Dam (Sri Saket), Pa Sak Jolasid Dam (Lob Buri) and Chao Phraya Dam (Chainat). Participants had opportunity to discuss not only with officials from Royal Irrigation Department and Electric Generating Authority of Thailand but also villagers who are for and against dam constructions. The field study is facilitated by by Dr.Chaiyan Rajchagool (Chiangmail University, Thailand) and Dr.Chantana Banpasirichote (Chulalongkorn University).
 
During the trip, participants were warmlly hosted by local Rotary clubs at Nakorn Ratchasima (July 29) and Ubon Ratchathani (August 2).

Mr.Thongcharoen Srihatham showed participants the local wisdom reflected in their fishing gears.
 

Dr.Peter Vail translated while Mr.Thongcharoen demonstrated
various kinds of fish in Moon River.


RPCS participants enjoyed their discussion with Prof.Dr.Amara Pongsapich, Dr.Peter Vail and Mr.Thongcharoen Srihatham.
